What is H-DECS?

Heartside-Downtown Electronic Communication System (H-DECS)

H-DECS is an electronic system that communicates services, such as food, housing, clothing, and support groups, in the Heartside-Downtown neighborhood. Over ten television monitors run 24 hours a day, throughout the Heartside-Downtown area. This system is updated daily and can act as a resource guide for businesses as well as residents and visitors who are new to the neighborhood. Along with being a resource guide, H-DECS will capture up-to-date information; if a support group is canceled or free fresh produce has been dropped off, H-DECS can relay that information in real time.  The Downtown Development Authority, and many others have made this possible by providing funding for H-DECS. Some participating agencies and organizations are Degage Ministries, God’s Kitchen, Guiding Light Mission, Heartside Ministry, United Way of West Michigan, Grand Rapids Public Library, First United Methodist Church, Bethlehem Church, and St. Andrew’s Cathedral
